A Study on Differences in Emotional Expression Between Video Call and Face-to-Face Nursing Interviews in People with Schizophrenia
Basic Information
| Recruitment status | Pending |
|---|---|
| Health condition(s) or Problem(s) studied | Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder |
| Date of first enrollment | 20/02/2026 |
| Target sample size | 10 |

| Study type | Other |
| Intervention(s) | It observes and compares facial expression data during identical nursing interviews conducted under two communication conditions: video-mediated and face-to-face. |
Outcome(s)
| Primary Outcome | Differences in dimensional indicators (valence and arousal) measured by facial expression analysis software (FaceReader) between VMC and FTF conditions (VMC effect). For each indicator, the overall intensity mean throughout the interview and the event-based intensity mean (defined as FaceReader score 0.26 or above) are estimated using Bayesian analysis, with 95% credible intervals calculated at both individual and group levels. |
|---|---|
| Secondary Outcome | (1) VMC effect on categorical indicators (six basic emotion scores: happiness, sadness, fear, anger, disgust, and surprise) measured by FaceReader, estimated using Bayesian analysis with 95% credible intervals. (2) Frequency and duration of emotional expression events per condition, reported as descriptive statistics (median, interquartile range). (3) Participants' subjective experiences related to differences in emotional expression between VMC and FTF conditions, explored through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. |
